The Making of the CSX-Cabbagetown Wall Murals

These 4 videos, taken by Leon Little, detail the process of the creation and installation of the of the Seaberg/LeFever ceramic tile murals on the CSX wall. It is a wonderful documentation of slice of Cabbagetown History.

Designed by Steve Seaberg and executed by Esther Lefever, these 8, 12 by 16 foot, ceramic tile panels were begun in 1986 and finsihed in September, 1987. They begin on the retaining wall of the CSX Hulsey Intermodal railroad yard that runs along Wylie street from Carroll street to Krog in Atlanta. Video by Leon Littlle. First of a four part series.

Several of the eight panels are up on the wall. Esther and Steve discuss the mural’s connection with the community. Ken Witkowski works on Pabel #1, the seventh one to be mounted.

This video includes performances by Esther Lefever, Joyce Brookshire, Barbara Jackson, Peanut Brown (guitar) and others. Esther died of cancer in 1999. A park at Wylie and Powell streets is named after her.
